After preparation of almost two years the African Leadership Shirts where ready for a presentation to the audience at Let's Meet Africa and Do Business in Eindhoven in November 2008. It was a long and winding road for OAVM and its business partners in South Africa, to create a design that would represent the long term embrace for sustainable business while empowering women in business and aid in creating self-sufficient entities.
However the shirts could be used for many purposes the hope of OAVM and Malibongwe is that the shirts will be popular among the numerous soccer fans in South Africa who would like to wear the shirts while supporting their 'Bafana Bafana'. The shirt is also very attractive for companies and organisations to promote their business in a sustainable way before, during and after the FIFA World Cup in 2010.
FIFA World Cup 2010 is not only a sports event but has become the playground for international sponsors. The project development behind the shirt is to create greater economic security. The people of South Africa are proud of their flag because of the traditional values and history. The retail and manufacturing sector is suffering from the import of cheap materials from China at this moment which creates a bigger unemployment problem as it already was under previous disadvantaged black woman in South Africa. With this in the backdrop, this product is made by South Africans in South Africa with materials from their own country. This in itself not only empowers the women but the country as a whole. The design of the African Leadership Shirt is the based on the flag of South Africa and its colors. The flag not only represents the rainbow nation as it is often referred to, but the traditional values and history.
In June 2009 the shirts were officially presented in South Africa during the MARKEX 2009 in Sandton and they can be officially ordered and purchased in South Africa. The shirt presentation happened in the same week the one year count down to the 2010 kick off started with the opening game of the South African team against Irak during the Confederationscup.
