Art and the World Cup 2010
The real heroes of 2010

With the opening of the exposition ‘The Real Heroes’ in the Bell-Roberts galery in Cape Town the 2010 Fine Art project was started. The South African Clint Strydom aimed high with a surprising black and white photo series of soccer in rural South Africa. These pictures can be watched in the 2010 Fine Art Collection, an official product of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. A large number of artists will have the change through this podium to show their work to a big audience and sell some of their work as well.

Clint Strydom comes from a small village in KwazuluNatal and is for the first time in Cape Town. He is not used yet to get so much media attention standing in front of TV cameras.

With this series ‘The Real Heroes’ he tried to capture the love for soccer of the rural areas.

Is is great to see how much pleasure soccer gives to the poor South Africans. They take every chance they get to kick against a ball or another round object. But good soccer fields and soccer shoes are seldom available. With these pictures I want to give this side of the African soccer attention, these are the real heroes of 2010.
